What is botox and its areas of use?

It is a kind of toxin obtained from a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. It helps reducing the wrinkles caused by muscle contractions by preventing the contraction of the muscles. It is very effective on the horizontal wrinkles on the forehead, vertical lines between the eyebrows, and the wrinkles at the sides of the eyes (goose foot). They are also used for the purpose of lifting eyebrows, and they have good results in the treatment of the wrinkles of the neck. If it is applied in the appropriate doses to the appropriate locations, the blunt and mimicless expression called “mask face” will not be observed. Its effect is not permanent, and it needs repetition every 6 months.

Are there any other conditions for which botox is used?

It is used with success in some types of migraine-like headaches; excessive sweating of palms, soles, and armpits; some tic-like conditions; conditions in which the eyelids are closed excessively and some muscle diseases.

How is botox applied?

A few different types of botulinum toxin exist. The appropriate doses for the one to be used are determined and it can be applied with fine needles in office condtions. Patients can go to work just after the application. Maximum effect is observed in 4-5 days.
